Careers, Jobs and Education Resources for: Willow, AK
Willow is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is part of the Anchorage, Alaska Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the 2000 census the population was 1,658. Willow has been the subject of several never-executed proposals to move the state capital from Juneau, due to its location within the populated Southcentral region, yet far enough from Anchorage to avoid becoming a satellite of it. Landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg created a master plan for the city as part of one such proposal. In a 1976 ballot measure, voters selected Willow to be the site of the new capital; however, a ballot proposition six years later that would have permitted the state to spend over $2.8 billion to effect the move was defeated by voters.[citation n...
